Colton + Ella: A sneek peak

Colton made his grand debut into this world 3 weeks ago and he is such an amazing little man. I spent the day with him, his mom, and his big sis.

His mom, Dawn, and I spent three hours or so trying to get him to take a much needed nap so we could get a few “newborn” pictures of him, but he wasn’t quite sure he was going to let us, but he finally did!

His big sis, Ella, is so good with him, she talks to him really sweet and even changes his diaper. Dawn wanted a couple of pictures of her two beautiful children together and here are a couple of my favorites. I had a great time today with Dawn, Ella, and Colton!

Free Newborn Sessions!!

Prego or know someone who is? Great! We need newborn pictures and are offering free newborn sessions through the end of 2010. Is your baby due after 2010? That’s alright, too, just book before the end of the year and yours will be free, too.

Vinyl Wall Art: A new way to enhance your family portraits and decorate your home!

Holbrook Photography is proud to offer a new, fun product!  Vinyl wall art.

Vinyl wall art has been around for quite a while, but a lot of people still do not know about it. You may have seen vinyl wall art before and not even known what it was. Vinyl when placed on a wall looks just like paint, but is so much cleaner and easier and the options are endless.

Already, we have hundreds of designs and lots of color options, so your vinyl wall art will be a unique as you are.

Some ideas to get you started:  Personalize your little boy’s room with his name and a flying plane or your little girl’s room with huge modern flowers. Add even more personality to your photos on your wall, by adding a quote beside them or put a monogram of your last name. For a modern twist, you can even add vinyl frames and add your pictures right on top with double-sided tape.

Here’s an example of a quote I custom designed earlier today to be displayed beside one of our canvas gallery wraps:

I’ll be adding more pictures to this post soon to get your creative juices flowing!

Click here to see all the color choices! Hundreds of text styles are also available.

I ? coffee table books!

I don’t even use traditional photo albums anymore; do you? Not only are coffee table books more fun to look at than traditional albums, they are easier to display, take up less space, and make a better gift.

Why are coffee table books more interesting than traditional albums? There’s lots of reasons! First of all, the covers and layouts can be as simple or creative as you can imagine, and can be created to match the event displayed and your taste in general. They can look very formal, casual, or a mixture of both.  All of these are children’s albums, but look at the difference in the covers:

Also, a coffee table book can tell a story much better than a traditional ablum just because of the different layout options, and you get a better feel for the “personality” of the subject.

But most of all, these are real books! What could be more interesting that seeing your family’s portraits or special event in a beautifully bound book that will last forever?! Well, one thing that might be better, is if you received it as a gift, my mother + MIL always love getting photo books of their grandson!

How can a coffee table book be displayed? Well, the obvious answer is on your coffee table, but there are so many other great options!

One of my favorite ways to display a coffee table photo album is with a simple plate holder.

Above: This single plate holder can be found at Our American Heritage for only $8.95.

Another cool option is to get a modern bookshelf and display your framed photographs as well as your coffee table books together.

This Holman Ledge shelf can be found at Pottery Barn for as little as $35.

I would love to hear how you display your coffee table books!

What should I expect during my Creative Session?

How will your photo shoot go? Well, it will go great, of course! Seriously though, many clients ask us what to expect during the session. The day of the session, we will arrive on location and scope out a few different sites prior to your arrival.  We will take a few shots from several perspectives at each location, along with a variety of candid shots along the way; typically, a couple of standing scenes, sitting scenes, walking scenes, and natural scenes, along with detail shots to catch the mood or feel of the day. We try to make the process as relaxed and fun as possible to help ensure we get the most natural and heartfelt expressions.

Our shots are not entirely posed or completely photojournalist either. We loosely pose our subjects and at the same time take a variety of natural shots as well. While it can be hard to capture shots of younger children in a posed setting, many times the best shots and the best smiles are captured as we are setting up the shot, so it’s perfectly OK if your child is being just a little silly at times because the moment that they begin to forget about the camera, relax and just be themselves, we have the opportunity to capture the perfect shot.

Annalee’s Third Birthday Party!

Annalee is a beautiful little girl who just turned three. Although Annalee has three brothers and isn’t afraid to get dirty with the rest of them, she is definitely all girl!  The first gift she opened was makeup and she wasn’t interested in looking at anything else. As her mother, Jenny, opened the rest of her gifts, Annalee concentrated on applying her new lip-gloss all over her sweet little face. She’s such a doll!

Later, Larry found her outside hiding around the corner of the house with a friend blowing bubbles. Larry said it was so sweet, Annalee was low on bubbles, so her friend offered to share his. They poured bubbles back and forth between their containers for a very long time, somehow thinking that the more they did it, the more bubbles they would end up with.

We had a great time spending the day with the Keeners!

Spring Portraits at East Cobb Park

Over the past couple of weeks, Jessica has been mentoring a young lady, Rebecca, a senior at Sequoyah High school. Rebecca’s future educational plans include both psychology and photography, which, interestingly, are the same two subjects Jessica pursued in college. After the first session, Rebecca’s aunt stopped by with her three children to pick Becca up. We spent a little time taking some candid shots of the kids and after a few minutes made plans with their mother, Kaina, for a photo session at the park in the next couple of weeks.

First thing this morning, we met the Spring family at the East Cobb Park for their photo session. We spent an hour with the family at the park; the weather was great, the kids were a joy to work with, and with Rebecca looking over our shoulder (who took some wonderful pictures of her own), we got some great shots.

Here are just a few pics, a sneak peek, of Ryan, Jacob, and Emily, from today.

Welcome!

Welcome to Holbrook Photography where your everyday moments become the art of your life!

We specialize in newborn, children, and family portraits, as well as children’s events, in the Atlanta metro area. Our highest desire is to capture the true nature of our clients in a comfortable environment, such as their home or favorite park, while creating a beautiful piece of art, which will be a part of their family forever.

Although we love photographing any part of a family, our favorite subjects are children. Children grow and change so fast, it is wonderful to be able to make a permanent memory of what they were like in a particular moment in time. Even more than that, children are just so unique, interesting, and honest!  They aren’t aware of the camera in the same way that we are as adults, and they haven’t forgotten how to just be themselves no matter what anybody else thinks.  They are free-spirits, their faces show it, and the camera loves every second. Even when they pout or scrunch up their noses, that moment can be more powerful and beautiful in a photograph than anything else.

There is something so refreshing when it comes to photographing a child. Yes, sometimes they are hard to catch up with because they are always on their toes, running around, enjoying what life has to offer, but isn’t that part of what you want to remember about them in years to come anyway? A soul full of life and wonder! That’s really what makes photographing children so much fun; the unexpected.

We hope we have a chance to get to know your family and to help you preserve the moments that are most precious to you.
