A couple of my oldest and dearest friends, Kaley + Josh, had their first baby on December 2nd. They have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child and kept us all in suspense by not finding out if they were going to have a girl or a boy.
When Kaley asked me if I would be able to take pictures after the birth, I was so excited. I was hoping it wouldn’t fall on a day that I already had a scheduled photo shoot, so when they called me at 1:00 am to tell me they were leaving to go to the hospital, I was so happy to be able to go that I left my house immediately. I didn’t want to risk missing the birth of their first child.
I waited in the waiting room with Josh’s mom and dad and Kaley’s mother and had a wonderful time chatting with their parents. Josh’s mom told me the story of how Josh was named and sweet stories about her memories of her grandfather when she was a child, and Josh’s dad kept me laughing and bought me at least two cups of coffee, which I needed. All the soon-to-be grandparents were ticked to death that Kaley was about to give birth. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of waiting for a baby to be born, it’s kind of like the excitement you feel when you are a child waiting for Christmas morning, but waiting for a baby is still better than that.
Once the baby was born, I got to go in and take pictures even before the grandparents got to see the baby. It was so special. Then Josh, the baby’s daddy, walked out with me to the waiting room to give the news. He had a canister of chocolate cigars wrapped in….BLUE…to show they just had a baby boy!
I’ll never forget being there. Thank you, Josh + Kaley, for letting me be a part of this very special day in your lives. Harrison is absolutely amazing!
